Our Story
AKM Self Storage has been part of the Kurri Kurri community for more than 18 years, long enough to have seen the same customers come back to us for a second and third move. Some of our most loyal customers first stored with us over a decade ago, and when they needed space again, they came straight back.
We've stayed a family-run business the whole way through, which means the person who answers your call today is very likely the same person who'll hand you your key, walk you through the paperwork, and check in if you need anything while your things are with us.
No call centre, no scripts, just people who've been doing this a long time and genuinely like helping their neighbours get sorted.

Meet Kathryn
Kathryn McDonald owns and runs AKM Self Storage, and she's usually the person you'll speak to when you call. Over 18+ years she's guided Hunter Valley locals through some genuinely stressful days, a sudden move, a downsize after a big life change, a business scrambling for extra space, and built a reputation for making a hard day easier.
Customers regularly tell us she took the time to explain everything clearly, matched them to exactly the space they needed, and made a process they were dreading feel completely manageable.

Our facility is in Kurri Kurri, but our customers come from right across the Hunter Valley, including Cessnock, Rothbury, Huntlee, North Rothbury and Rutherford. Wherever you're moving from, we are happy to talk you through what size unit will actually fit your load before you get here.
Our Facility
All AKM storage is based at our purpose-built facility at 38 Wermol Street, Kurri Kurri, clean, secure and monitored 24/7, with undercover loading zones, trolleys and lifts that take the hard work out of moving day. Units range from 2m x 3m up to 6m x 3m, available on hire terms as short as a few weeks or as long as you need. You only pay for the space and the time you actually use. We help our customers with:
Need boxes, tape or bubble wrap to get everything packed properly? We stock packing supplies onsite too, along with practical packing advice from a team that has loaded more units than we can count.
